Okay, well, most of my space marines have been finished, to at least a level that I'm not completely embarrassed to bring to the table, and really I used the idea of finishing my orks as a motivational reward to get my marines repainted. So, utilizing some new techniques I picked up online, I decided to paint some old minis to see if the results would be good enough to warrant a redo of the rest of the Waaaagh! Have a look.
The new process uses washes to achieve what has been up til this point impossibly good results for me. I am colorblind, therefore subtle shading and blending is truly not feasible, or at least not at the speed at which I like to paint.
Step 1: Prime (White)
Step 2: basecoat, get your main colors on there. I decided to go old skool, grey khakis and black boots.
Step 3: Wash (Im using a water-based stain, but don't tell anyone)
Step 4: final details: here I do a bleached bone on the teeth, and some other little details. Again, my main goal is table-top quality, and here is a pic with half the unit, all of these guys at once, looks far better than anything I have previously done, and I am stoked.
